Similar help and support threads Thread Forum I am having a confusing time trying to figure out why my internet went from 10+ Mbps down to. I could disable the touchpad but that just defeats the purpose of having a laptopNot hardly. A mouse will fit in most notebook cases, and is vastly easier to use than a touchpad, IF you have a suitable surface to use it on. And fortunately, with blue lasers, that can be a carpet, arm of a chair, or even a pant leg. But its def not meOh? My problem is 'Tapping' when I am doing anything on it and I even brush the touchpad it shoots off and opens something else or the cursor will relocateThat sure sounds like you, no? So if you keep accidentally brushing the touchpad and it shoots off then you either need to make it less sensitive (if possible) or retrain you so your habit is to hold your hands up and stop brushing the pad. Did you check your manual for sensitivity settings? Thanks for your feed back, kinda thought that this forum was to help and not ridicule.Ridicule? Don't be so sensitive. We know absolutely nothing about you and your skillset. After all, I confessed upfront I had a similar problem that I was unable to resolve through any settings in Control Panel or my notebook's hardware settings. Sorry if was unable to give you a solution you like. Clearly if you are brushing the touchpad, with finger or shirtsleeve, and it tosses your cursor across the page, and there is no sensitivity setting, then YOU have to change, just as I did by reverting to using a mouse. Is it possible to download a compatible driver that will give me the capability to change settings? This is exactly why I like PCs and dislike notebooks. PCs have the ATX Form Factor standard the requires all ATX motherboards, ATX cases, ATX power supplies to fit, connect, and work with each other and to support 'standard' PCI, PCIe, USB, and SATA add-ons and peripherals. So if you don't like your graphics solution, for example, you can replace it with one from a multitude of makers providing a multitude of models, and know it will work. But with notebooks, there is no ATX standard. So notebook makers use and do whatever they want in their quest to make the thinnest and lightest notebook. Therefore, notebooks are very proprietary, and that's bad. While several notebook makers may use the same touchpad, graphics solution, or sound, they often 'tweak' the device and/or the driver to fit that notebook. So what I am saying is, if Advent does not have a newer driver, and your touchpad's control panel options do not allow any adjustments to sensitivity, then I see no other options for you. Sorry I could not help further. Perhaps someone else reading can. If you do find a solution, please post it back here. Again, I wish I could help. It would seem with a week passing and no other replies that a solution alludes us all. I am sure others have the same problem and are tired of compensating for something that should be a simple setting. Hopefully they will post their findings. And if you do find a solution within Windows, your hardware/driver setup, or via a 3rd party program, please post back here. Speaking of Windows, you said you looked everywhere for a sensitivity setting, perhaps I should not have assumed - did you check sensitivity settings in Control Panel? Note that even for the touchpad, these are located under 'Mouse'. In Windows 7, go to Control Panel > Mouse > the 'Device Settings' tab > 'Settings.' Button > Pointing > Sensitivity > Touch Sensitivity Further down in Settings are the Tapping functions. You might play with them too. (Depending on your version of Windows and how you view your Control Panel, the navigation to the sensitivity settings may be slightly different - but they should still be under Mouse somewhere).

Digitally restored, this remarkable presentation of Roald Dahl's classic story is lavishly illustrated by the artists of the Walt Disney Studios. The story of the The Gremlins concerns the mischievous mythical creatures of the title, often invoked by Royal Air Force pilots as an explanation of mechanical troubles and mishaps. In Dahl's book, the gremlins' motivation for sabotaging British aircraft is revenge of the destruction of their forest home, which was razed to make way for an aircraft factory. The principal character in the book, Gus, has his Hawker Hurricane fighter destroyed over the English Channel by a gremlin, but is able to convince the gremlins as they parachute into the water that they should join forces against a common enemy, Hitler and the Nazis, rather than fight each other. This was Roald Dahl's first book and preceded the British publication by several months. The story was optioned by Disney and was intended to be made into an animated film, but it was never produced. A note on the copyright page states: 'The RAF Benevolent Fund will receive the author's share of the proceeds from the sale of this book.' Dahl's next children's book, James and the Giant Peach, published eighteen years later. Oh, it was a happy and peaceful life that these little men led – until the humans came.” And so begins the story of the Gremlins who were torn from their homes when the humans decided to build a factory for airplane production. The Gremlins knew it was time to act and ‘to get revenge for the loss of our homes. We will make mischief for them, and we will harry and tease the men who fly them, until we obtain some satisfaction for all the harm that has been done to us.’ The pilots finally figured out a way to appease these pesky Gremlins: feeding them Transatlantic-special-deliver-airmail stamps. By feeding them this delicacy, they were finally able to talk to the Gremlins and explain why they tore down their home and that it was to save their homes from all being destroyed. The pilot asked the Gremlins to help and that if they assisted and were victorious that they would give them a patch of forest back to them to be their new home. Interesting Facts This was actually the very first children’s book that Roald Dahl ever wrote. ‘The Gremlins’ is a story set in the 1940’s when we were in the midst of WWII. This story was originally meant to be a film by Walt Disney but was dropped and never completed but the book was still published. This is considered to be a quite rare book as fewer than 5,000 books were published worldwide. Thoughts This was an adorable book that I stumbled upon. Highly recommended to anyone given the opportunity to read it! Its semi-understandable why this never reached fruition as a movie or a 1 hour Walt Disney tv show. It just didn't have the pizazz that a Disney show would have. Plus, it was based on a war that the US was involved in that wasn't very 'popular' at the time. It hurts me to say this, since war is never very popular but we didn't have the media back then that we have now, nor the ability to promote the positive spin on things that we do now. The little gremlins are sketchy and not as attractive as most Disney characters, but they never got the chance to be developed. The style is definately WW2 which is not a drawback, but it will never get a chance to be restored at any point in the future. It's only incarnation is in this book, by Roald Dahl, so this is where they will stay. It is definately worth a look, to see the developement of the Disney style at this povital point in history, to read a story by Dahl, and how the Disney artists have progressed from the original Mikey Mouse, to what is being created now. Gremlins are, of course, those pesky little creatures that only fliers can see and which wreck havoc on their planes. In Dahl’s version of the story, the Gremlins were living happily in a lush northern England wood when one day, some humans showed up with the big trucks and machinery. First, the humans cut down all the trees and rolled over the dirt until it was hard-packed. Then, they built a factory that produced airplanes. First, the humans cut down all the trees and rolled over the dirt until it was hard-packed. Then, they built a factory that produced airplanes. In the process, they destroyed all of the homes belonging to the Gremlins. Now homeless and angry, the Gremlins vowed revenge and set about sabotaging pilots and their planes. This was proving to be a problem during World War II whenever the RAF pilots came up against the German pilots. The Gremlins seemed to be as much their enemy as the Germans. One pilot named Jamface told another named Gus that he had his plane's Gremlin almost reformed by feeding him transatlantic postage stamps, a rare delicacy in the Gremlin world. Gus tried that method, but with no success and on his next flight, he and his Gremlin were forced to bail out of their plane, because of the Gremlins antics. They ended up in the English Channel and for three hours, Gus tried arguing and reasoning with his Gremlin and finally won him over. But while Gus may have won his Gremlin over, that was not so for all of them. The next time he went up in his plane, with a 102° fever, Gus didn’t count on a large group of Gremlins working against him as well as a German Heinkel, whose pilot proceeded to shoot his plane up. Gus took two bullets in the leg and crash landed. Gus spent a long time in hospital, thinking about Gremlins. He came up with a plan for reforming them by opening the first Gremlin Training School. The school had two courses – Initial Training and Advanced Training. The school flourished and grew as more and more Gremlins discovered they liked being good. When Gus finally left the hospital, he was no longer fit for flying. But what good is an RAF pilot if he can't fly? Yet, try as he might, he continued to fail the medical test for flying. Seeing his distress, the Gremlins decided to help Gus. Word went out to all Gremlins that on the day and time of the next medical exam, they were to show up and help Gus pass the exam. And so they did and Gus was able to return to doing what he loved - flying. Gremlins were well known among RAF pilots, who talked about them all the time. After all, it was very convenient to blame them for everything that went wrong. Capitalizing on this superstition, Dahl wrote The Gremlins, after he has been invalided out of active duty in 1942. After Dahl finished his story, Walt Disney considered making it into a movie, even bringing Dahl out to Hollywood to discuss the matter. But the movie was never made, though no one really knows why. The text of The Gremlins was written by Dahl but the illustrations were done by artists working for Disney, who own the copyright on them. Only 50,000 copies were originally printed in 1943, so copies were scarce. But in 2006 the book was finally reproduced in volume and is still relatively easy to come. Dahl had joined the Royal Air Force in November 1938. He later wrote about his early flying experiences in a children’s book called Going Solo. After many flying mission that resulted in being honored with the title flying ace, Dahl was invalided out of active duty due to severe headaches. He spent the rest of the war in Washington DC doing intelligence work. Dahl was invalided out of the RAF in 1946. Though Dahl wrote for both adults and children, it is mainly his children’s book for which he is most known. This book is recommended for readers age 10 and up. This book was read at the NYPL. 'The Gremlins' is the first book written by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Leonard Martin, in about 1943. Gremlin Gus, a mischieveious gremlin persuades the other gremlins that they should stop messing up planes and fight with the English against the Nazis. The gremlins and pilots were only able to agree on this after they fed the gremlins their favorite food, which is 'transatlantic-special delivery airmail stamps'. The gremlins then went to a training school where they become better at fighting and news spread to other 'fighter squadrons'. However, the main gremlin, Gus, gets sick and the rest the story is about him trying to make a recovery and doing to hospitals. By the end, the other gremlins help him recover so he is fit enough to fly again. When this happens, they sing merry songs and drink 'many tankards of good strong ale'. The narrator notes than still many people do not believe in gremlins because only a few hundred people have had direct experience with the help of gremlins in war. Although this book is written by one of my favorite children's authors, Roald Dahl, I do not recommend this book. I still give it four stars because it might be great for someone who has fought in World War II or is a scholar about the topic. In that case, they might think the story is appealing. It is important to read old children's books and see how much children's literature has changed throughout the years, and it is also important to read books that take place in response to major historical events such as World War II. Yet, I do not think the book is high quality children's literature. The story is not very engaging for children because their is a lot of text on each page, and small illustrations. This book is more of an illustrated book, than a picture book because the pictures and text do no have a strong relationship. Further, it is difficult to understand, and only someone who has a lot of knowledge about World War II will be able to understand this story in my opinion. There are many abbreviations for war such as the R.A.F and C.O, and terms such as Heinkel's that are unexplained. There is no glossary or forward or extra piece of writing that will help children understand and access this story, except a complicated introduction written for adults. More importantly, this book does not embody the themes and characteristics Roald Dahl usually includes in all his stories. There is little witty and dark humor, silly language, and chaos that children can relate too. This story is more appropriate for high schoolers or college students who are studying war propaganda in World War II. Although given that this is Roald Dahl's first book, it is interesting to see how far he has come as a writer and how much more developed his later books were compared to this book, which is why I decided to read the story of 'The Gremlins'. I always recommend reading older classic books to children that may have timeless concepts and ideas, but 'The Gremlins' is a illustrated book that might be boring to children and cause them to disengage in the lesson. This is a significant work. Forget for a moment this is a Dahl book. Let's look at it as a children's book written during WWII, optioned and illustrated by Disney. 'The Gremlins' is the author's first book and it gives a humorous, creative look at the horrors of the time. Often planes were shot down by the enemy. But sometimes they came down for no good reason. Perhaps because of Gremlins in the works? It isn't what we (today) could call a 'children's book' - there are no children in it - but it does take an approach to the subject that would appeal to a child. It's pretty typical of the time (eg ) where fathers, brothers, and, one day, the child readers were going away and fighting. As a historic piece it reminds us (me) of what was. The fighting was over England. Wounded planes landed on country roads. The comaradery and friendship. Even that there were two people in that plane - the pilot and the gunner. Pilots were injured, sick, and they still got back in that plane to do their duty. The illustrations are very early-Disney-esque, pencil drawings with heavy outlines ready for animation. Even the illustrations are of a time. There are teases of future-Dahl in the whimsy, wonderful creatures with fully developed histories, and the tragicomedy. But it isn't a great book. It isn't really well developed. The narrative is jumpy and the conclusion is rapid. The illustrations are somewhat hit and miss. There's a page - landing in the field - which doesn't quite make sense (missed editing?). However, I liked it. It has appeal. It would excite a young reader who knows his war planes -,, - or an older reader looking to engage with mythology of the time. It's a piece of literary history I hope isn't lost, again. The most interesting aspect of this book was the four page introduction by Leonard Maltin, which unfolds the story of how Dahl had paired up with the brothers Disney (Walt and Roy) in the days of the Second World War to bring this tale of mythical creatures to life in a full-length animated cartoon. This intro really seems to paint Walt Disney as a bit of a power-hungry control freak (trying to suppress others from using the Gremlin idea, though this was already a very popular folk tale and had been used in Bugs Bunny shorts). And for many reasons, the film was never made. But as interesting as the intro may have been (which led me to rate this work 3 stars rather than 2, above) it could not save the work itself. For readers interested in the works of Roald Dahl it may be a disappointing read (especially if they come to this work after reading the bulk of his better known children's stories first), but it is an essential piece to understanding the beginnings of his writing career - a style that certainly improved with time. Their forests were destroyed during the Industrial Revolution and they want revenge. Maybe for fun, or maybe not. Now the pilots won't have anyone to blame but themselves when things go wrong though. Didn't think that one through, did you? This book just. The illustrations weren't enough to keep me engaged, I was constantly confused by who didn't believe in them and who did. I don't understand why they decided to work with creatures that nearly murdered them for fun. It was just a bit of a mess for me. I think Disney even got a film out of this nonsense. No nostalgia here, and no Snoopy to keep me engaged. One of the very first things Roald Dahl ever wrote and not his best work but there are glimpses in here of hints at what is to come. In this story, their antics eventually get turned toward good deeds and they make friends with the pilots. I can't help but see a link here between the gremlins and The Minpins from the Dahl book of the same name. Minpins also were little people that lived in trees, used suction boots to not fall, and had their forest threatened. It makes you wonder if he wrote that book after the gremlin movie fell through. Whatever, I think the story would have made quite a cute movie and I'm sure someone will have the same idea soon enough, then everyone will hear about Roald Dahl's Gremlins. It is rare that anything by Roald Dahl disappoints a reader due to his masterful storytelling and superb understanding of both child and adult minds. Fans of Disney's work will be delighted to discover this book as it's in print for the first time, thanks to the efforts of Dark Horse publishing house. Dahl fans, on the other hand, will cry. Dahl's first published work, inspired by a meeting with C. Forester, was Shot Down Over Libya. Today the story is published as A Piece of Cake. The story, about his wartime adventures, was bought by the Saturday Evening Post for $900, and propelled him into a career as a writer. Its title was inspired by a highly inaccurate and sensationalized article about the crash that blinded him, which claimed he had been shot down instead of simply having to land because of low fuel. His first children's book was The Gremlins, about mischievous little creatures that were part of RAF folklore. The book was commissioned by Walt Disney for a film that was never made, and published in 1943. Dahl went on to create some of the best-loved children's stories of the 20th century, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda and James and the Giant Peach. He also had a successful parallel career as the writer of macabre adult short stories, usually with a dark sense of humour and a surprise ending. Many were originally written for American magazines such as Ladies Home Journal, Harper's, Playboy and The New Yorker, then subsequently collected by Dahl into anthologies, gaining world-wide acclaim. Dahl wrote more than 60 short stories and they have appeared in numerous collections, some only being published in book form after his death. His stories also brought him three Edgar Awards: in 1954, for the collection Someone Like You; in 1959, for the story 'The Landlady'; and in 1980, for the episode of Tales of the Unexpected based on 'Skin'. Roald Dahl, c. 1954 The Gremlins is a, written by and published in 1943. It was Dahl's first children's book, and was written for, as a promotional device for a feature-length animated film that was never made. With Dahl's assistance, a series of characters were developed, and while pre-production had begun, the film project was eventually abandoned, in part because the studio could not establish the precise rights of the 'gremlin' story, and in part because the was heavily involved in the production because Dahl, who was on leave from his wartime Washington posting, insisted on final approval of script and production. Contents • • • • • • • Plot [ ] The story concerns mischievous creatures, the of the title, often invoked by pilots as an explanation of mechanical troubles and mishaps. In Dahl's book, the gremlins' motivation for sabotaging British aircraft is revenge of the destruction of their forest home, which was razed to make way for an aircraft factory. The principal character in the book, Gus, has his fighter destroyed over the by a gremlin, but is able to convince the gremlins as they parachute into the water that they should join forces against a common enemy, and the, rather than fight each other. Eventually, the gremlins are re-trained by the to repair rather than sabotage aircraft, and restore Gus to active flight status after a particularly severe. The book also contains picturesque details about the ordinary lives of gremlins: baby gremlins, for instance, are known as, and females as, a name taken from the great 'flying' filly racehorse, that won both and in 1916, the year Dahl was born. Publication [ ] The publication of The Gremlins by Random House consisted of a 50,000 run for the U.S. Market with Dahl ordering 50 copies for himself as promotional material, handing them out to everyone he knew, including the British Ambassador in Washington, and the First Lady of the U.S., who loved to read it to her grandchildren. The book was considered an international success with 30,000 more sold in Australia but initial efforts to reprint the book were precluded by a wartime paper shortage. Reviewed in major publications, Dahl was considered a writer-of-note and his appearances in Hollywood to follow up with the film project were met with notices in Hedda Hopper's columns. Facing copyright problems and realising that the Air Ministry's 'Clause 12' in the original film contract would restrict the studio,, who had a personal interest in The Gremlins, reluctantly began to 'wind down' the project. By August 1943, Disney had even reconsidered an animated 'short' based on The Gremlins and indicated to Dahl by correspondence that further work would not continue. After a year of story conferences and related research, Dahl realised that his book would be the only tangible product emanating from the aborted film. Subsequent use [ ] The Dahl creations were subsequently used by in several World War II cartoons, most notably and, which the latter starred. Several variations on gremlin characters were also used in and as for, such as, who was used by the () on their patches. The story of gremlins appeared in Issues #33-#41 of published by between June 1943 and February 1944; it contained a nine-episode series of short, silent stories featuring a Gremlin Gus as their star. The first was drawn by Vivie Risto and the rest of them. This served as their introduction to the audience. These comics were subsequently reprinted in 1987 by Gladstone Publishing Ltd. Reprints [ ] A special edition of the book was produced to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the and was distributed exclusively through the. The USAF special edition featured a unique that bore the commemorative seal of the 60th USAF Anniversary. The inside flap of the dust jacket featured a brief history of the book's role in improving morale for and their families. The initial distribution of the USAF 60th Anniversary commemorative edition sold out at all participating AAFES locations on the first day of sale. Popular culture [ ] Used copies of the first edition book are highly prized and sought after by of both 's works and 's; these copies may be valued anywhere between US$100 and US$10,000. ', a 1963 episode, starring, is an homage to the legend of gremlins, one being seen dismantling an airliner during flight. The role was played by in the. In the book 'Myth Conceptions,' from the series, describes a gremlin as a small, blue-skinned creature that has a tendency to vanish when the viewer's attention is distracted. The 1984 film, produced by and directed by, is loosely inspired by Dahl's characters, featuring evil and destructive monsters which mutate from small furry creatures. In September 2006, published The Gremlins: The Lost Walt Disney Production, a faithfully restored and updated version of The Gremlins including an introduction by acclaimed film historian as well as creating a series of Gremlin-inspired toys and figurines, that were patterned after the original Dahl-inspired characters as well as a comic sequel miniseries in which the grandson of pilot Gus meets the Gremlins when inheriting his grandfather's house in England. The Gremlins appear in the franchise as tiny helpers of Mickey Mouse. Their leader Gus (voiced by in the first game and in the second) serves as a conscience figure to Mickey (as is to ). Unlike in the book, the Gremlins can teleport. Late Night Love Damon Dice has prepared an evening of romance for Gina Valentina. He's ready to round it out with a Champaign toast on the rooftop, but Gina is too enticing to ignore. Soon Damon finds his lips locked with Gina's and his hands on her small breasts. The Latina babe starts peeling off her own clothes while Damon watches until her shirt has been lifted up and her skirt is on the floor. Sliding down Damon's body, Gina finds herself on her knees in front of him. She pulls his briefs down to spring Damon's erection free and opens her puffy lip mouth to start sucking. It's not long before her blowjob is a full on deep throat delight. When Damon sinks down in a chair, Gina really starts sucking and stroking while paying plenty of attention to his balls. Without hesitation, Gina walks up to the table and leans forward so that her rump waves in the air. She grasps the root of Damon's hardon and guides him to where she wants him to be. When he slides in to slowly fill her up, she can't help but push back to speed up the process. As he starts thrusting, she meets him on every stroke for both of their pleasure. Turning around, Gina lifts one leg high in the air so that Damon can continue to fuck her as she stands. Then she backs up so she is laying on the table while Damon keeps going without missing a stroke. Her new position makes it easy for Damon to lean forward while his hips stay in motion. His mouth latches on to her breast, suckling her tender parts before lifting one of Gina's thighs high in the air for deeper penetration of her trimmed snatch. Taking advantage of the stunning rooftop ambiance, Gina gets daring. She urges Damon onto the table, and then swings one leg over his hips so she can straddle him. She sinks down onto his fuck stick and starts riding as the wind blows her hair and kisses her body. Her wild abandon is absolute as she brings herself to climax. Turning around on the table so she can offer herself for a true doggy style romp, Gina guides Damon with both her hand and her moans. He follows her lead to find the absolute right spot, and then rubs it again and again until Gina is gasping and squirming beneath him. Only after Gina cums does Damon pull out and aim his hardon at her lush bottom so he can cover his girlfriend's back and rump in a shower of hot jizz. And - Dont Talk To Strangers DON'T TALK TO STRANGERS School Girl Taken and Fucked by Deranged Married Couple The scene opens on Amy, a bright and happy 18-year-old high school student, as she heads home from school one afternoon. The camera lingers on her while she walks - wearing her school uniform, listening to ear-buds, and carrying a book bag innocently over her shoulder. When she passes a homeless man, she pauses and reaches into her bag, handing him her lunch leftovers. The man thanks her and she tellshim to keep his chin up before putting her buds back in and walking on. You can tell the girl is a very good Samaritan. As Amy continues, she spots a car pulled up along the side of the road. A woman is leaning up against it. When she sees the girl approach, she pulls out her phone and starts to mutter to herself. Amy stops and regards the woman, who is immaculately dressed and very beautiful. 'Are you ok?' The woman stops and, sighing, tells the girl that she's lost and can't get her GPS to work. She and her husband are late for an engagement and desperately need directions. Amy peers into the car and spots the woman's husband in the front seat. He is dressed in a suit and politely waves at her. She looks back at the woman and asks where they are going, maybe she can help point them in the right direction. The woman tells her that they are attending a function at the convention center -- but she lost the invite with the address and their signal dropped. Because they are out of towners, they simply don't know where to go. Amy begins to give them directions but as she explains where to go, the woman sighs again and mutters that her mind is like a sieve. She's not possibly going to remember. Amy stops and tries to think of another way to explain, as the woman subtly glances back at her husband. 'What if you were to get in the car and take us there?' The woman asks. 'My husband and I would be happy to pay you for your troubles and it would really help us out.' Amy, knowing that she isn't supposed to do this, glances in at the husband again. He looks perfectly normal. 'I would probably need to ask my parents.' She slowly says. She looks back up at the woman, who calmly asks how old she is. When Amy replies that she is eighteen, the woman smiles and laughs. 'If you're eighteen then why would you need to ask your parents? You're a grown up!' Amy laughs along meekly. The woman asks her name and Amy tells her. 'Well Amy,' the woman reiterates. 'It would really help us out if you would just get in the car.' Amy takes a long pause before agreeing. The woman opens the back seat and Amy climbs in. Then, surveying the area and kicking dirt over the footprints, the woman walks back to the passenger side and gets inside. The car screeches off. Two Days Later. The camera comes into focus as Amy slowly lifts her head from her lap. She is curled up in a ball in an empty room. Her bag is gone, her ear-buds are gone, and her school girl uniform is dusty and dirty. Her hair is tousled and her face is streaked with sweat. She has a terrible headache. A bucket sits close by, alongside a toothbrush in a glass of water, and some remnants of food. She wipes her eyes and starts to pick at the food when a door opens. It's the couple. No longer in formal wear, they step towards her in casual clothes and latex gloves. 'You've eaten all your food this time,' says the husband. 'What a good little pet.' The teen looks up at him in cold silence. She asks when she can have her call with her parents, the one they promised. The woman smiles. 'I told you already Amy, you can have your phone call when you make me cum.' The couple laugh as Amy slumps back down. Four Days Later. Amy runs around the empty room, banging on the walls. She unbuttons the last of her blouse and tosses it in the corner. The room is very hot. Sitting down defeated, she calls out to the couple that she is ready for them now. She'll do whatever they want. She just needs some air. She waits desperately for a reply but it never comes and she collapses into a heap on the floor. You can find the UID by plugging it (the iPhone) into iTunes and clicking on the serial number until the UID comes up. All you can get is the UDID, which is the value you already mentioned, which is a hash of something like the serial number and hardware identifiers I. Every iDevice has a UDID, or Unique Device Identifier. This important number is akin to a special serial number specific for each and every one of Apple's millions of iPhones, iPads, and iPods touch. Although most users never need to access their UDID, it's crucial for developers and beta testers. Today I was asked by an agency of a large customer how to discover the UDID (serial number) of an iPad without using iTunes. Background The reason for wanting the UDID is simple: the agency is creating a test app using and wants to send the customer a branded iOS test app. To do that without hacking (jail-breaking) the iPad, you need the UDID (basically the extended serial number) of the device so you can put that into Apple’s developer portal to create the correct provisioning profiles. Typically you’d plug the iPad into a Mac or Windows computer, launch iTunes and copy the UDID from there (click on the Serial Number field, which displays the UDID, and press Command+C). Here’s what that looks like: The problem is that in many large enterprises, the IT department doesn’t allow personal applications such as iTunes on your computer and also doesn’t allow you to install an application (such as iTunes) yourself. What won’t work (and don’t believe them) — aka fake UDID There are many apps in the App Store that promise to give you the UDID. Don’t believe that. Yes, in the past this was possible, however Apple has removed that ability, probably as some app creators misused that and tracked what you were doing (a UDID is a unique number that you can identify). It’s easy to find out if a UDID is fake — if such an app gives you back a UDID starting with “ffff” then it is a fake ID. (Apple’s iOS will generate a fake ID for apps that are still using the old API to get the UDID). How to discover a UDID without having iTunes If you are on OS X: You can use any of these methods: A: Plug the iPad into a Mac and use “System Report”: • Using a USB cable connect your iPad to any OS X computer. • Go to “About this Mac” (under the Apple menu) • Click “More Info” • Click “System Report” which will open “System Information” • In the left sidebar navigate to the section “USB” and select it • You should see your iPad (or iPod or iPhone) there. • In the section of your device it says “Serial Number” which lists a 40-character text string. That’s your UDID. • Here’s a screenshot of the USB section: B: Use “Apple Configurator” or “iPhone Configuration Utility” • If you have “iPhone Configuration Utility” (ICU) or “Apple Configurator” (AC) installed, that also lists the UDIDs of all iOS devices that have been connected once (while ICU/AC was running of course). So launch it and plug in your device. • Alternatively you can ask your IT, they probably have the ICU/AC tool and have the UDID present. • Here’s a screenshot of the ICU (click to enlarge): • You can find Apple Configurator for OS X here: • You can find iPhone Configuration Utility on Apple’s website here: C: If you’ve ever used iTunes to back up your iPad If you had iTunes previously installed and had ever backed up the iPad to your Mac, then there’s a way to find out the UDID by looking into the file system of OS X. In the Finder, go to /User/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup In that folder you’ll find one or more folders — one for each device you backed up. The folder name is the UDID. D: Use a Test App Service or website using certificates • You can also use apps or websites that install certificates, which tell you the UDID. Using websites you don’t know is always a bad idea — I found one that looks trustworthy, but as I do not know the company, I cannot recommend them, even though they might be totally trustworthy. If you want to try them yourself (and I take NO responsibility for what happens!), this is the URL: • You can try an “app” (it’s a Web app) that installs certificates. The one I have used often to distribute apps without having to install certificates is TestFlight: However, both of these methods require you to have the password to install certificates on your iOS device — which in this scenario you probably don’t have.:-) E: More? If you know of more methods, please let me know and I’ll add them. If you are on Windows: You can use any of these methods: A: Plug the iPad into a computer and use the registry • Using a USB cable connect your iPad to any Windows computer. I am using Windows 7, but it should be similar when using other versions of Windows. • IMPORTANT: in the following steps DO NOT modify anything, as changing the registry might break your Windows installation. • Start Regedit (e.g. By clicking on the Start button, and typing “RegEdit” in the search field) • Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Enum USB (it’s basically a folder structure) • You will see all USB devices in there — find the one that’s your iPad. It might say “Apple iPad”, in my case it had a cryptic name, so I had to open all sub folders under “USB”. However on the level below there’s already a folder with a 40-character string and by selecting that it says “Friendly Name” = “Apple iPad”. • Copy (DO NOT MODIFY) that name (e.g. Right clicking and selecting “Copy Key Name”). When you paste it in a text editor, the UDID is the last 40 characters. • Here’s a screenshot of RegEdit: B: Use iPhone Configuration Utility As far as I know, Apple Configurator isn’t available for Windows (yet?). Instead, use iPhone Configuration Utility for Windows: start it and plug in your device. For details see above (under OS X): it is the same procedure. You can find ICU for Windows here: C: Finding out when having done a backup once If you had iTunes previously installed and had ever done a backup locally, then there’s a way to discover the UDID by looking into the file system of Windows here: Users/User/AppData/Roaming/AppleComputer/MobileSync/Backup There you’ll find a folder for every iOS device you’ve backed up. Footnote: For security reasons I blurred my UDID in all screenshots. This post was written by: - who has written 80 posts on. While the 5C shared almost the same internal hardware as the iPhone 5, the 5C used a lower-cost poly-carbonate plastic case in place of the original 5's aluminum form. The introduction of the 5C deviated from Apple's previous market strategy, where the previous iPhone model would remain in production, but sold at a lower price point below the new model. On April 28, 2014, Apple initiated an out of warranty recall program to replace any failing power buttons of iPhone 5 models which were manufactured prior to March 2013 at no cost. On August 23, 2014, Apple announced a program to replace batteries of iPhone 5 models that 'may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently' which were sold between September 2012 and January 2013. In a statement, Samsung said it had 'little choice but to take the steps necessary to protect our innovations and intellectual property rights'. Litigation between the two involving patent infringement has been ongoing and is being fought in several court cases around the world. Production [ ] The components and labor required to construct the most basic iPhone 5 are estimated to cost US$207, which is US$19 more than the cost of components for the corresponding iPhone 4S model. The LTE module in the iPhone 5 alone costs $34, $10 more than the cellular module in the iPhone 4S. Similarly, screens used in the iPhone 5 cost $44, which is $7 more than the screen of its predecessor. Noted that the profit margin of selling each device is 'huge' as the iPhone 5 retails for US$649. After the announcement of the device, a lack of supply was evident. This was due to a shortage of components such as the screen. Reports emerged, stating that was unable to ship the screen before the debut of the iPhone 5, and other manufacturers reported that it was difficult to keep up with demand. As a result, the number of pre-orders rose due to the uncertainty of stock at retail stores, and the delivery dates for pre-orders were postponed to dates that were after the initial release date of the device. Quality control inspectors strike [ ], a –based, reported that 'three to four thousand' workers who work at the iPhone 5 production plant in stopped working on October 5, 2012. The strikes occurred after Apple implemented a stricter quality standard on their products, which includes a 0.02 mm restriction on indentations inflicted during production, and imposed demands related to scratches on frames and back covers. The strikes were also attributed to the employer forcing employees to work on a public holiday. The report stated training was inadequate for quality demands expected and led to employees producing products that did not meet standards. During the strike, conflicts between quality control inspectors and employees resulted in brawls. China Labor Watch also claimed that concerns raised by inspectors were not addressed by factory management. Spokesmen admitted that a problem exists, but also said that there were only 300 to 400 workers absent and the conflicts did not influence production processes. In November 2012 Foxconn chairman reported that the delay in production was due to undisclosed difficulties in assembly. Features [ ] Operating system and software [ ]. The iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S used stainless steel instead of aluminium due to Steve Jobs' preference for the metal which he thought, 'looks beautiful when it wears'. The iPhone 5 is 18% thinner, 20% lighter, and has 12% less overall volume than its predecessor, the. The phone's aluminum body is 0.30 in (7.6 mm) thick. At the September 2012 conference Apple claimed it was the thinnest smartphone in the world at 7.6 mm, though that claim was disputed as the Chinese Oppo Finder was thinner and some other smartphones could be considered to be thinner, depending upon where thickness is measured. The Oppo Finder measured 6.65 mm (0.262 in) at its thinnest point and 7.1 mm (0.28 in) at its thickest point making it overall thinner than the iPhone. Hardware [ ] The iPhone 5 uses a (SoC), called the. The SoC comprises a 1.3 GHz dual-core, 1GB of and a tri-core PowerVR SGX543MP4 running at 266 MHz. The front camera, which is accessible through the and camera app has a lower resolution, at 1.2 megapixels. The rechargeable with a charge capacity of 1440mAh is built in and cannot be replaced by the user; it is rated at ≤225 hours of standby time and ≤8 hours of talk time. There are three separate models of the phone available: one supporting CDMA and two GSM versions. This can have knock-on effects for which version of the device will actually work in which countries/regions. [ ] The phone takes a, smaller than the micro-SIM of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. Hardware benchmarking conducted using and GLBenchmark validates several claims that Apple included on their website and mentioned at the unveiling of the device, these include two times faster and two times the graphics performance. In the overall hardware assessment, the iPhone 5 received a score that was approximately 2.5 times higher than the iPhone 4S. The benchmark conducted using GLBenchmark for the iPhone 5 returned a score that was 2 times better than the iPhone 4S. The result was however inconsistent as a 3D graphics benchmark assessment using Passmark returned a score that was only approximately 1.45 times better than the iPhone 4S. Battery life assessments conducted by concluded that the battery life is shorter on the iPhone 5 than its predecessor when performing certain tasks, however when performing other tasks the iPhone 5 battery outlasts the iPhone 4S. The is 1,136 × 640 pixels with an of almost exactly 16:9, (minus one extra row of horizontal pixels). With a diagonal of 4' it has a of 6.7, compared to 5.7 in and. The increased screen size allows the sixth row of icons to be added to the five rows that were present in the. In-cell touch sensor technology from Sharp slims the screen which allows for a thinner phone. The screen's color saturation is 44% greater than its predecessor. There are three microphones (placed on the front, side and back) for and video calls. Accessories [ ]. Apple The iPhone 5, as well as the (5th generation), (7th generation),, and feature a new named, which replaces the 30-pin Apple Dock connector introduced in 2003 by Apple on the (3rd generation). The Apple Lightning connector has eight pins and all signaling is digital. This new connector is smaller than the previous one, helping the iPhone 5 to be slimmer than its predecessors. Apple Lightning cables have duplicate pins on two sides of each plug, so it can be inserted either way round. Various accessories will be available to convert the Apple Lightning connector to the older 30-pin Apple Dock connector or, although not all old accessories will work, as not all signals are available, in particular video output and the iPod Out feature for BMW automobiles. Earphones known as are included with the iPhone 5 and other devices announced at the Apple media event on September 12, 2012. They superseded earphones that were included with previous generation iPhones and iPods. Apple states that the redesign of their earphones allows it to 'rival high-end headphones that cost hundreds of dollars more'. Reviews by and reported that although the redesigned earphones sounded better than its predecessor, reviewers felt that quality of sound produced is poor. Network compatibility [ ]. The T-Mobile version of the iPhone features a modified version of the A1428 iPhone 5 model enabling (AWS) support. All carriers in Canada selling the iPhone 5 have their own LTE networks, including,,,, and. 42 officially recognized bands exist for LTE, however rollouts are coalescing around the more-popular bands, based on what historically has been made available in specific regions. In Europe, bands available for LTE include, 2.6 GHz (the 3G-expansion band) and 800 MHz (cleared of analogue TV), with 1,800 MHz appearing in a few places including the UK. In Germany, the only carrier network supported is that of T-Mobile with its 1,800 MHz band allocated to LTE. Some countries in Europe, including,,, and others—will not be able to offer LTE connectivity via the iPhone 5 to their customers on their current LTE networks, as they have already deployed LTE in the 2.6 GHz band, which the iPhone 5 does not support. In November 2012, a representative of reported that the iPhone 5 only supports LTE on networks that have been tested and certified by Apple. Unlike the iPhone 4S, which was the only ' produced by Apple, there are three versions of the iPhone 5, which differ by the frequency used. All three work on 2G / and 3G / networks on both the 800 and 1900 MHz bands used in the Americas, and the 900 and 1800 MHz bands used elsewhere. The CDMA A1429 model works on networks, such as that of Sprint and Verizon. Another version supports LTE only on the 1700/2100 MHz band, and the 700 MHz band recovered after the in the US (channels 52 to 56), currently the only network that supports the band is AT&T. GSM A1429 supports several other LTE bands available in other countries, such as LTE bands 1, 3, 5. Reception [ ] Critical reception [ ]. Comparison between the 30-pin port of the (top) and port of the iPhone 5 (bottom) The iPhone 5 received mainly positive reviews from commentators and reviewers. Tim Stevens from praised the iPhone 5 for its high resolution screen surpassing that of the iPhone 4S, which he considered to be one of the best phone screens available on the market. Stevens was critical of the new connector, which is incompatible with devices and cables that use the superseded 30-pin connector, although the reported that this was a change necessary to make the device smaller than its predecessor. Engadget agreed that Apple fulfilled most of the promises stated on its website, such as 'better battery performance', 'two times the graphics performance' and 'two times faster.' Of considered the 4-inch Retina display a 'nice but not life-changing change', and praised the Lightning connector for its size, sturdiness, and reversibility, while noting its lack of support for older accessories, remarking that 'Apple has a long history of killing off technologies, inconveniently and expensively, that the public had come to love'. Technology columnist of was impressed that Apple had met the public's 'lofty expectations' for the iPhone 5 in a competitive market. In a repair-ability review, found the iPhone 5 easier to disassemble and repair than its predecessor. Reported that the iPhone 5 design, carried on in the and, was regarded as 'long been the golden child of Apple phone design and a benchmark for phones in general', while the succeeding /6S design was less critically acclaimed as it 'felt a little bit wrong, as though you were holding a slick $650 bar of soap'. Wired described the iPhone 5 as 'elegance rooted in the way the aluminum and glass work together. It felt streamlined, yet substantial, which is different from the iPhone 6, which feels substantial in size alone. Plus, unlike the ubiquitous rounded corners of the 6, the iPhone 5 didn’t really look like anything else on the market at the time'. However, the iPhone 5's design was not suited to scaling up, in contrast to the iPhone 6/6S which could better accommodate the growing consumer trend towards larger screen sizes and indeed spawned the 6/6S Plus models. Criticism [ ] Reviewers and commentators were critical of the new Maps app that replaced in iOS 6. It had been reported to contain errors such as misplacement of landmark tags, directing users to incorrect locations and poor satellite images. Nine days after Maps' release, Apple issued a statement apologizing for the frustration it had caused customers and recommending that they try alternate mapping services. Errors [ ] Gizmodo editor Diaz discussed the correspondence between Apple and a reader about purple flare in pictures taken on iPhone 5 camera. Apple's response to the issue was that it is normal and advised the customer to aim the camera away from bright light sources when taking photos. Tests conducted by indicate that the problem existed on the iPhone 4S but was more distinct and pronounced on the iPhone 5. Found that the purple haze effect occurred on several other manufacturers' phones including the and, and that it was not less pronounced on the iPhone 4S. The report concluded that digital cameras in general, including higher-end, can all suffer from lens flare in which a purple-tinted effect was not uncommon. Problems [ ]. Example of an iPhone 5 with chipped coating. There were of the iPhone 5's coating chipping off, exposing the bright aluminium underneath. Apple executive's response to email correspondence from an affected customer summarized that it was normal for aluminum to scratch. The term 'scuffgate', a reference to ' which affected the iPhone 4, was applied by various sources such as,, and to describe the scuffing issue. Some users reported on the Internet that the white model leaked light behind the screen, though the issue was not unique to the iPhone 5, as it also affected other Apple devices. Chip is 22% smaller than the and consumes less power. Commercial reception [ ] Techcrunch reported that the iPhone 5 sold out twenty times faster than the 4 and 4S models. Apple said that they were 'blown away by the customer response'. Phil Schiller, Apple's vice-president of worldwide marketing, said that over two million iPhone 5 orders had been received in the first 24 hours. Said that the iPhone 5 was the fastest-selling iPhone the company had ever offered, selling over five million units on launch weekend and exceeding the supply available. The release and sale of the iPhone 5 has also slowed down the growth of Android according to market share reports released by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. During the first 16 days after the phone's initial release it comprised over 20% of all phones sold in that period. 's chief economist, Michael Feroli said that 'sales of iPhone 5 could boost annualized US GDP growth by $3.2 billion, or $12.8 billion at an annual rate.' Shortly after the announcement of the iPhone 5 and preceding the launch, Apple's stock price rose to a record $705.07, but within three months fell to $507.48. According to the analysis of Eric Savitz, Apple's stock decline and resulting losses were not the result of any issue with the new Maps application, but disappointed investors. He points to initial hardware sales of only five million, compared to projections up to twice that, as the primary cause. Since the release of the iPhone 5, discounts on previous generation iPhones have enabled Apple to maintain a market lead in the United States and Japan, but the iPhone continued to lag behind the combined total of Android phones in the global market. Few figures in hip-hop have changed the game as fundamentally as Marshall Mathers. The Detroit emcee's cutting wordplay and playfully sadistic wit have earned him fans beyond hip-hop’s borders and made him one of the best-selling musicians of all time. The Marshall Mathers LP 2 came charging out of the gate with “Berzerk,” a Rick Rubin–produced track that chopped up the heavy guitars of Billy Squier's “The Stroke,” name-checked Public Enemy, and delivered a flurry of jabs at celebrities. In short: classic Eminem. Combining forces with Rubin and longtime collaborator Dr. Dre, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 is gritty, raw, and an appropriately provocative sequel to Eminem's groundbreaking 2000 release. In short: classic Eminem. Combining forces with Rubin and longtime collaborator Dr. Dre, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 is gritty, raw, and an appropriately provocative sequel to Eminem's groundbreaking 2000 release. To call Eminem hip-hop's Elvis is correct to a degree, but it's largely inaccurate. Certainly, Eminem was the first white rapper since the Beastie Boys to garner both sales and critical respect, but his impact exceeded this confining distinction. On sheer verbal skills, Eminem was one of the greatest MCs of his generation -- rapid, fluid, dexterous, and unpredictable, as capable of pulling off long-form narrative as he was delivering a withering aside -- and thanks to his mentor Dr. Dre, he had music to match: thick, muscular loops that evoked the terror and paranoia Em's music conjured. And, to be certain, a great deal of the controversy Eminem courted -- and during the turn of the millennium, there was no greater pop cultural bogeyman than Marshall Mathers -- came through in how his violent fantasias, often directed at his mother or his wife, intertwined with flights of absurdity that appealed to listeners too young to absorb the psychodramas Eminem explored on his hit albums, The Slim Shady LP and The Marshall Mathers LP. With hits 'My Name Is' and 'The Real Slim Shady,' he ruled the airwaves, but it wasn't long before some detractors acknowledged his depth, helped in part by singles like the mournful 'Stan,' written from the perspective of an obsessed fan. Eminem capitalized on this forward momentum by crossing over onto the big screen with 8 Mile, earning acclaim for his performance and an Oscar for the film's anthem 'Lose Yourself,' but a number of demons led him to shut down for the second half of the decade, an absence that proved life is indeed empty without Em, before he returned in 2009 with Relapse. Born Marshall Mathers in the Kansas City suburb St. Joseph, Eminem spent his childhood between Missouri and Michigan, settling in Detroit by his teens. At the age of 14, he began rapping with a high-school friend, the two adopting the names 'Manix' and 'M&M,' which soon morphed into Eminem. Under this name, Mathers entered battle rapping, a struggle dramatized in the fictionalized 8 Mile. Initially, the predominantly African-American audience didn't embrace Eminem, but soon his skills gained him a reputation, and he was recruited to join several rap groups. The first of these was the New Jacks, and after they disbanded, he joined Soul Intent, who released a single in 1995. This single also featured Proof, and the two rappers broke off on their own to form D-12, a six-member crew that functioned more as a Wu-Tang-styled collective than a regularly performing group. As he was struggling to establish his career, he and his girlfriend Kim had a daughter, Hailey, forcing him to spend less time rapping and more time providing for his family. During this time, he assembled his first album, Infinite, which received some underground attention in 1996, not all of it positive. After its release, Eminem developed his Slim Shady alter ego, a persona that freed him to dig deep into his dark id, something he needed as he faced a number of personal upheavals, beginning with a bad split with Kim, which led him to move in with his mother and increase his use of drugs and alcohol, capped off with an unsuccessful suicide attempt. All this Sturm und Drang was channeled into The Slim Shady EP, which is where he first demonstrated many of the quirks that became his trademark, including his twitchy, nasal rhyming and disturbingly violent imagery. The Slim Shady EP opened many doors, the most notable of them being a contract with Interscope Records. After Eminem came in second at the 1997 Rap Olympics MC Battle in Los Angeles, Interscope head Jimmy Iovine sought out the rapper, giving the EP to Dr. Dre, who proved eager to work with Eminem. They quickly cut Em's Interscope debut in the fall of 1998 -- during which time Marshall reconciled with Kim and married her -- and The Slim Shady LP appeared early in 1999, preceded by the single 'My Name Is.' Both were instant blockbusters and Eminem turned into a lightning rod for attention, earning praise and disdain for his violent, satirical fantasias. Eminem quickly followed The Slim Shady LP with The Marshall Mathers LP in the summer of 2000. By this point, there was little doubt that Eminem was one of the biggest stars in pop music: the album sold by the truckload, selling almost two million copies within the first two weeks of release, but Mathers felt compelled to tweak other celebrities, provoking pop stars in his lyrics, and Insane Clown Posse's entourage in person, providing endless fodder for tabloids. This gossip blended with growing criticism about his violent and homophobic lyrics, and under this fire, he reunited his old crew, D-12, releasing an album in 2001, then touring with the group. During this furor, he had his biggest hit in the form of the moody ballad 'Stan.' Performed at the Grammys as a duet with Elton John, thereby undercutting some accusations of homophobia, the song helped Eminem to cross over to a middlebrow audience, setting the stage for the ultimate crossover of 2001's 8 Mile. Directed by Curtis Hanson, best known as the Oscar-nominated director of L.A. Confidential, the gritty drama fictionalized Eminem's pre-fame Detroit days and earned considerable praise, culminating in one of his biggest hits with the theme 'Lose Yourself,' which won Mathers an Oscar. After all this, he retreated from the spotlight to record his third album, The Eminem Show. Preceded by the single 'Without Me,' the album turned into another huge hit, albeit not quite as strong as its predecessor, and there were some criticisms suggesting that Eminem wasn't expanding his horizons much. Encore, released late in 2004, did reach into more mature territory, notably on the anti-George W. Bush 'Mosh,' but most of the controversy generated by the album was for behind-the-scenes events: a bus crash followed by canceled dates and a stint in rehab. Rumors of retirement flew, and the 2005 appearance of Curtain Call: The Hits did nothing to dampen them, nor did the turmoil of 2006, a year that saw Mathers re-marrying and divorcing Kim within a matter of four months, as well as the shooting death of Proof at a Detroit club. During all this, Em did some minor studio work, but soon he dropped off the radar completely, retreating to his Detroit home. He popped up here and there, most notably debuting the hip-hop channel Shade 45 for Sirius Satellite Radio in September 2008, but it wasn't until early 2009 that he mounted a comeback with Relapse, an album whose very title alluded to some of Mathers' struggles with prescription drugs, but it also announced that after an extended absence, Slim Shady was back. While not quite a blockbuster, the album went platinum, and Eminem followed it at the end of the year with an expanded version of Relapse (dubbed Relapse: Refill) that added outtakes and new recordings. Recovery, initially titled Relapse 2, was issued in June 2010. The album debuted on top of the Billboard 200 chart, where it remained for five consecutive weeks, while its leadoff single, 'Not Afraid,' debuted on top of the magazine's Hot 100 singles chart. The year 2010 also brought Eminem back together with Royce da 5'9' under the Bad Meets Evil moniker. In turn, June 2011's Hell: The Sequel marked the release of their first EP as a duo and -- barring the previous month's release of key EP track 'Fastlane' as a single -- was their first batch of new material since a 1999 double A-side. After an intense period of recording, Eminem announced in August 2013 that his next solo album would be a nostalgically themed set of new material entitled The Marshall Mathers LP 2, which landed in early November. The album featured the singles 'Berzerk,' 'Rap God,' and 'Survival,' plus the chart-topping hit 'The Monster' with Rihanna. In 2014, new tracks landed on the double-disc set Shady XV, which celebrated the Shady label's 15th birthday. The singles 'Phenomenal' and 'Kings Never Die' featuring Gwen Stefani arrived a year later, both taken from the Southpaw soundtrack. Eminem resurfaced in October 2017 with a freestyle anti-Trump rap. The track didn't appear on Revival, the December 2017 album that was filled with cameos, including appearances by Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, and P!nk. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine • ORIGIN St. Joseph, MO • BORN October 17, 1972. Many J-pop stars perform under pseudonyms, but Salyu took it a step further, debuting as Lily Chou-Chou, a fictional rock star with very real songs, one of which was even used by Quentin Tarantino, before launching a career as a real person (though still under an alias). Born Ayako Mori in 1980, she studied piano from an early age and joined a school choir to combat pneumonia she contracted in primary school (it was either this or swimming lessons, and she made her choice). In 1998, she began auditioning as an aspiring performer, and was eventually scouted by Takeshi Kobayashi, who worked with Mr. Children and Hitoto Yo, to play the title character in the upcoming Shinji Iwai movie All About Lily Chou-Chou. 'Lily Chou-Chou' released two singles in 2000, but their gloomy rock sound did not catch on with the public. The album Kokyuu, which was released by Toshiba EMI, came out in 2001, along with the movie, and only charted at number 60, although the movie went on to become a cult classic, and Chou-Chou's song 'Kaifuku Suru Kizu' was used in Tarantino's Kill Bill. Mori went on a hiatus after this, but re-emerged in late 2002 as Salyu (a corrupted version of the French 'salut'). She spent almost two years playing live before hitting the studio, and her first post-hiatus release, the single 'Valon' (2004), was a collaboration with Ilmari of Rip Slyme, although it was followed by her own version of the single as well, which made it her debut record. It only charted at number 34, and although her first full-length, Landmark (2005), climbed to number 20, her sales remained subpar. But in 2005, Salyu was invited to perform at the three-day high-profile charity festival organized by Sakurai Kazutoshi of Mr. Children, and got the opportunity to sing with his charity project Bank Band on the single 'To U,' which was a smash hit. This finally got things going for her, as her next two singles, 'Name' (penned by Hitoto Yo) and 'Platform,' with tie-ins to the movie Metro ni Notte, both scored number 15, and her second album, Terminal, rose to number two. She did not record much in 2007-2009, when she only released a couple of singles and a best-of collection, but returned with third album Maiden Voyage in 2010, scoring number seven on the Oricon. ~ Alexey Eremenko View on Apple Music • GENRE. Milton/Clarence/Premakeerthi trio gave the pop music the best they could back in the 1970s and the ongoing love/hurt/mending all were intact in those tracks. Milton had a reputation to be the prince of romance and I could not remember any wedding ceremony without his tracks being played them days. 'Awasara Netha Mata' was yet another pop track by the trio and this particular track was recorded by me off the radio back in 1978-79 era so the recording quality was not as one would expect but the sound/voice and lyrics are all nicely blended. Back in the 1970s many stories were rumoured for these lyrics/songs and I wonder whether they possessed any truth. Only Milton/Clarence/Premakeerthi would have known and coincidently all three of them are no more but have left their treasure to share among us. It was a pleasure listening to these tracks over and over back in the 70s yet over now and sharing over YT. Awasara Natha Mata by Milton Mallawarachchi. Sinhala song download and on-line listen.
